Zenfolio | the 30 birds | Batikot, Nangarhar Album
A quiet, idyllic village just minutes from the Torkham border with Pakistan. We came here in search of the remains of a historic college built by Akhund Musa Khan Batikoti, a 17th century theologian and mystic, and spent an afternoon collecting oral histories from the rish-safedan (lit. white beards, meaning elders). The Akhund was student of Khwaja Muhammmad Mas'um in Sirhind in North India. (ref. Rawzat al-Qayyumiyya v. II; Maqamat-e Ma'sumi)
