Built in the 13th century, and embellished by the Timurids, Safavids, and later rulers of Herat. To the Mughal kings, it was the touchstone of aesthetic refinement. You'll find architectural elements of this mosque replicated throughout Iran and Pakistan - even in Shah Jahan's Jami mosque in Thatta, Sindh. The pictures should speak for themselves.
