Bahrain: literally meaning two rivers. Several hours beyond the capital of Swat lies the village of Bahrain, at the confluence of two mountains rivers. We visited in 2010, immediately after the two greatest trials the valley had faced - the tremendous flood which swept away homes and bridges, and the Swat Taliban, who waged a brutal campaign against Bahrain's indigenous Sufi practices. The people, however, are resilient, and life goes on. Families are back to riverside picnics, sunbathing, and fishing during the day, and at night trading stories on charpais precariously balanced on boulders in the riverbed.
